Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees signed recently acquired pitcher Chris Capuano to a major league contract and added him to the 25-man roster on Friday.

The veteran was pitching in the Colorado Rockies' minor league system when the Yankees obtained him in Thursday's trade to aid their depleted pitching staff.

Capuano agreed to a minor league contract with the Rockies earlier this month and he made one start for Double-A Tulsa and three for Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The 35-year-old lefty began 2014 with the Boston Red Sox and was released by the club on July 1. He signed with the Rockies three days later.

Capuano has compiled a 74-84 record with a 4.28 ERA in 266 career games (209 starts) with Arizona, Milwaukee, the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston.

Pitcher Chris Leroux was designated for assignment by the Yankees in a corresponding move.
