Man serving time for 2008 homicide found dead in cell

LAS VEGAS (KSNV – A man incarcerated at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs for a 2008 homicide in Las Vegas was found dead in his cell.

A news release from the Nevada Department of Corrections said Ruben Martinez Arroyo, 34, died of an apparent suicide. His body was found at 4 p.m. Friday.

Arroyo had been in High Desert since May 17, 2012. He was serving 10 years to life for the Oct. 17, 2008, fatal shooting of Julio Ceasar Gonzalez-Hernandez at an apartment complex in the 3600 block of East Sahara Avenue.

Arroyo also had a consecutive five- to 15-year sentence for attempted murder.
