LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – One person is dead after an accident this morning near Desert Inn Road and Tenaya Way.
According to a Metro news release, witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle was travelling westbound in the left travel lane, of three travel lanes, on Desert Inn Road approaching the intersection of Monte Cristo Way.
A 1994 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound in the right travel lane of Desert Inn Road west of the intersection of Monte Cristo Way.
For unknown reasons, the Suzuki operator, identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Jay Corpuz Abalos, 30, of Las Vegas, changed lanes to the right, entering into the right travel lane occupied by the Nissan. The front of the Suzuki hit the right rear of the Nissan, causing Abalos to be ejected from the motorcycle.
Abalos sustained critical injuries, was transported to UMC Trauma and was pronounced dead by attending medical personnel shortly after arriving.
The driver of the Nissan remained on‐scene and did not claim any injuries.
This was the 58th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction for 2013. The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
