HENDERSON (KSNV MyNews3.com) — The city of Henderson is throwing its hat into the medical marijuana ring, one year after state law made it a possibility.
The city took its first steps Tuesday night, laying out a framework during a public hearing.
The hearing moved five medical marijuana dispensary slots closer to reality in Henderson.
However, as opposed to Clark County — which took the reins of the vetting process and handpicking applicants — Henderson is placing that responsibility on the state to rank the best qualified.
Applicants in Henderson can expect to shell out more money to open a business than other cities in the state. Henderson also goes beyond state requirements when it comes to zoning — even taking into account water conservation.
Tuesday’s action was only an introduction of proposed bills. The city is scheduled to vote July 1. If approved, Henderson could begin taking applications as early as July 7. That would be one day after the city’s moratorium on medical marijuana expires.
