LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) –
An MMA fighter accused of one of the most horrible cases of domestic violence in the Las Vegas Valley is no longer on the run.
U.S. Marshals captured Jonathan Koppenhaver, known professionally as “War Machine,” today after he ran away from the home where police say he beat his former girlfriend and another man in an attack spanning more than two hours.
Marshals caught up with Koppenhaver at a hotel in Simi Valley, Calif.
News of his capture was music to the ears of those who live near the home where Koppenhaver is accused of an hours-long attack on Christy Mack, who suffered broken bones, a ruptured liver and knife wounds.
A source close to the situation says to News 3 that Koppenhaver may have had help from people connected to mixed martial arts. That sickens the victim’s mother. “If that is the case, that is shameful,” she said. “That is truly shameful.”
Investigators also say Koppenhaver attacked a guest of Mack's that same evening. Corey Thomas was punched, strangled and – sources say — mangled by Koppenhaver’s teeth. A News 3 source says Koppenhaver bit and chewed Thomas’ face and nose.
Marshals turned Koppenhaver over to the Simi Valley Police Department for booking on his warrant from Nevada. He was transported to the Ventura County Jail.
