LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Residents and business owners displaced by the Carpenter 1 fire were allowed back this morning into Kyle Canyon.
The general public will get access to Trout Canyon, Lovell Canyon, Lee Canyon and Kyle Canyon on Friday.
There are 722 personnel continuing to battle the fire, which began around noon July 1 after a lightning strike. The fire, which has affected 27,881 acres, is 85 percent contained.
Helicopters flew 19 hours on Tuesday patrolling the fire and dropping water on hot spots. Firefighters will continue to patrol and mop up all accessible portions of the fire perimeter, 300 to 500 feet into the interior today. Crews are positioned to provide initial attack response, should any new fires start in the area.
Wood chippers are being used in the upper canyon to chip vegetative debris from the indirect fire line built to catch rolling materials from the steep rocks, in the avalanche paths below South Loop Trail ridgeline.
