LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — A former member of the News 3 family and longtime Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist has passed away.
Linn Mills, 76, died Friday, a day after undergoing surgery. He had been hospitalized for a broken hip.
Mills was a Southern Nevada resident for most of the last 47 years, first settling in Overton in 1967, then moving to Las Vegas in 1981.
An enthusiastic horticulturist, Mills wrote a gardening column for the R-J, which he continued until his death. He also became well known to News 3 viewers as the "Garden Guy" in the mid-1980s.
Though not a trained broadcaster, Mills proved comfortable in front of the camera, with a friendly, folksy style as he explained desert gardening to News 3 viewers.
Mills worked as a horticulturalist with both the Nevada Cooperative Extension and the Las Vegas Valley Water District, and was a board member at Gilcrease Orchard.
He had written a final column, which will appear in next Sunday's Review-Journal.
