LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – One man is dead after he was struck by a minivan Tuesday night on Maryland Parkway north of Desert Inn Road. The driver was suspected of driving under the influence and arrested.
According to a Metro news release, the victim, a 60-year-old Las Vegas man, was crossing Maryland Parkway west to east in front of Sunrise Hospital around 8:35 p.m. when he was struck by a 1997 Nissan Quest minivan traveling northbound, the driver was identified as Arnoldo Perez, 21, of Las Vegas.
The Nissan was in the middle travel lane, of three northbound travel lanes, of Maryland Parkway when he failed to avoid the pedestrian, who was crossing outside a designated crosswalk and a pedestrian bridge in the area of the accident.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.
This is the 110th fatal-injury traffic accident in LVMPD's jurisdiction for 2013. Metro had recorded 109 fatal accidents last year, which had reversed a six-year trend of decreasing Las Vegas roadway deaths.
The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
