LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – Once again, the Clark County Commission rejects the More Cops sales tax initiative for the third time.

Commissioner Susan Brager ended up being the deciding vote to reject the plan. It failed by a 4-3 vote.

This latest version would have raised the sales tax to 8.25 percent in two intervals while also tapping into Metro's $136 million reserve to hire more officers.

Previous efforts to pass the tax in Clark County have failed, despite state lawmakers backing the plan during the 2013 Nevada Legislative Session.

Sheriff Doug Gillespie was frustrated with the decision saying commissioners told him they would likely vote yes if it was an articulate financially sound plan.

Clearly some commissioners did not feel that way, grilling the Sheriff on questionable helicopter rides and how much money the department really has.

Gillespie says he does not think the commission has lost faith in him.

The Sheriff went on to say he told his officers this decision would not lead to any layoffs. He says the department will now need to get creative to balance the books.
