LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – Two people, including a suspect, are dead after a pair of home invasions this morning near Tropicana and Sandhill.
According to Metro Capt. Matt McCarty, a Freeway Service Provider was on the side of the road at Tropicana and U.S. 95 when he saw a white Nissan Altima parked on the side of the road. There were two people trying to enter the Altima, and he thought they needed assistance. When he approached the male subject, he pulled out a firearm and demanded that he take them to the area of Ridgewood and Autumn.
One of the suspects appeared to take a hostage, but police said it was a ruse as it was his female accomplice. She took off and was quickly taken into custody, and he went into another home.
A short time later, a man came screaming out of the home saying his girlfriend had been shot. The suspect emerged again with a hostage. She fell to the ground, and a Metro officer fired on the suspect, killing him at the scene.
Two people were transported to Sunrise Trauma; the male victim died from his injuries. A woman told News 3 that two people broke into her daughter’s home after asking to use the phone, stabbed and beat her daughter, and stabbed and shot her husband. The second hostage victim is in serious condition.
Three children, ages 19, 16 and 8, were inside the home.
