LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – A man who had been threatening to harm himself and was carrying a rifle was shot and killed by a SWAT officer this morning at a residence near West Twain Avenue and Duneville Street.
According to Metro, a roommate at a residence on Maceta Avenue, called dispatch to say one of the people living there was acting strangely, possibly suicidal, and he had a rifle.
A barricade situation developed. The suspect exited the residence at 5:35 a.m. with the rifle and was shot and killed.
Police say they tried to negotiate with the suspect for several hours before they were forced to fire.
The man killed by a SWAT officer is believed to be his mid-30s and lived with four other roommates.
News 3 spoke with one of the roommates who did not want to go on camera. The roommate says the man had not slept for days and as soon as that man pulled out a rifle that's when the roommate locked himself in the bedroom and called police.
Police got that call about 3:30 this morning. Officers arrived and negotiated with the suspect for several hours.
According to the roommate, the man came out of the house with a rifle and a SWAT officer on the roof of a home across the street opened fire and killed the man.
Neighbor Mike Jenson didn't see anything until he went outside to his patio.
