LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) –
One person suffered serious injuries Monday morning after crashing into a schoolbus near the intersection of Flamingo and Torrey Pines.
According to Metro Officer Laura Meltzer, a person operating a moped collided with a school bus just before 7:25 a.m. and was transported to University Medical Center.
Clark County School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said about 40 Grant Sawyer Middle School students were on the bus. No injuries were reported. Another bus was dispatched to the scene to get the students to school.
Police say a 2013 moped operated by 20-year-old Christopher Voutsinas of Las Vegas was traveling east on Flamingo Road in the right turn lane approaching the intersection with Torrey Pines Road.
A CCSD bus, driven by 49-year-old Edwin Serrano, was headed southbound through the intersection on a green traffic light.
According to witnesses the scooter rider failed to stop for the red traffic light and drove into the path of the bus.
The front of the bus struck the left side of the scooter and rider.
Voutsinas was wearing a helmet and was ejected from his scooter. None of the passengers in the school bus reported any injuries.
This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
