'Shop With a Cop' helps lift ailing children's spirits

NORTH LAS VEGAS — The North Las Vegas Police Department conducted its annual Shop With a Cop event this morning.

The event took place at the Target store at 2189 W. Craig Road, More than 45 children were expected to shop alongside North Las Vegas Police, Detention and Marshal officers who have volunteered to be their "personal shoppers."

The Shop with a Cop event began outside the store as Santa Claus and his wife arrived in a parade of flashing police vehicles.

Participants were selected from a variety of organizations to include: Candlelighters of Southern Nevada, Make a Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada, Positively Kids Foundation, and the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. The organizations are committed to the assistance and support of terminally ill and medically fragile children.

Each year, this event is made possible by donations received from North Las Vegas businesses and citizens. Each child had the opportunity to spend $200.
