LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — For nearly three hours, dozens of southern Nevadans stood before the Public Utilities Commission to speak their minds about a possible hike in their power bills.

NV Energy is proposing a nearly $21 million revenue increase. For average residential customers, that is a $2.80 increase in their power bill each month.

The company says this is the smallest hike requested in 10 years. However, many people who attended Tuesday's meeting say it's still too much, and they can't afford it.

There are hearings scheduled to start in August when parties in the case, PUCN regulatory and commission representatives, and possibly outside consultants can speak. While the public cannot speak during these August hearings, they can attend.

If the application is approved, customers will see changes in their power bills as early as January 2015.
