LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- The two people accused of plotting to kidnap and kill Metro police made their first court appearance today.
Bail was set at $600,000 for 42-year-old David Brutsche. Bail for 67-year-old Devon Newman was delayed until a hearing Aug. 27.
The two had to appear separately today in court. Because of the nature of their alleged crimes, they are not allowed to be in the same room.
Both are set for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Sept. 9.
They were arrested Tuesday after a months-long investigation into their plot to kidnap, try by jury and execute police officers for treason, according to a police report.
Metro police are reporting a surge in so-called sovereign citizens.
The FBI defines them as people who don't believe they have to answer to government authority.
