LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – Three adults and a child were displaced this morning after a bedroom fire damaged a northwest Las Vegas home.
According to a Las Vegas Fire & Rescue news release, neighbors called 9-1-1 operators just after 8:30 a.m. and reported that a house in the 1700 block of Battle Creek Circle, near Torrey Pines and Vegas, had thick, black smoke coming from it. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, they found the one-story, wood-frame house with thick smoke coming from it and fire coming out of one rear window.
No one was home at the time, and firefighters had to force entry into the home. They had the fire under control and extinguished in just a few minutes.
The fire did heavy damage to the bedroom, but firefighters were able to contain it to that room. There was some damage to the hallway and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house. Damage was estimated at $30,000.
Investigators say they believe it started on a mattress in the bedroom. Because no one was home at the time, investigators need to talk to all the occupants before making a final determination. They said it appears to be accidental in nature and may be smoking related.
The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
