LAS VEGAS — UNLV men's basketball junior forward Roscoe Smith intends to hire an agent and declare for the 2014 NBA Draft, head coach Dave Rice said Friday.

Smith, who will forgo his senior year of eligibility, led the Mountain West and was sixth in the nation in rebounding with 10.9 rpg during the 2013-14 season. He also averaged 11.1 ppg for the Rebels, recording 16 double-doubles (10th in the country).

"I had a great experience at UNLV and really enjoyed playing for Coach Rice and his staff," Smith said. "I am ready to take the next step in my career, but I love UNLV and will always be a Runnin' Rebel. I am planning to finish my classes this semester in addition to preparing for the draft."

Smith shot 53.1 percent (129-for-243) from the field and blocked 22 shots. He led UNLV rebounding, in field-goal percentage and was third on the team in scoring. He was named honorable mention All-conference in March.

"Roscoe is such a hard worker and good player," Rice said. "We were fortunate to be able to see his work ethic first-hand these last two years. He was one of the best rebounders in the country and provided great energy and leadership. We appreciate all of his contributions to our program and wish him the best."

Smith, originally from Baltimore, was a member of the UNLV men's basketball program for two seasons. He sat out the 2012-13 season as a redshirt after transferring from Connecticut following his sophomore year. He was a member of the 2011 national championship team at UConn (his freshman year).
