(NBC News) Forecasters say it'll still be a few more days before the sweltering heat wave that's hovering over most the nation moves on.

The heat tightened its grip on the Chicago area Wednesday.

Temperatures hovered in the mid-90s, with a heat index as high as 106 in some places.

A Bermuda High has drifted inland and is parked over the upper mid-section of the country, making it hazy, hot, and humid most everywhere.

Most of the country, 43 states, are in the 90s this week, and 13 states have issued heat advisories or warnings, with heat indices approaching 105 in some areas.
