Assistant sheriff provides details on June 25 officer-involved shooting

LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Assistant Sheriff Joe Lombardo provided details today about a June 25 officer-involved shooting.

According to Lombardo, multiple callers reported a female yelling and waving a knife outside of an apartment within the complex at 7230 South Las Vegas Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found 48-year old Mimi Goldberg yelling and holding a knife on the second floor balcony outside of an apartment. Goldberg refused to drop the knife took the screen off of her apartment window, and climbed inside the window.

Lombardo said officers approached the window and observed Goldberg stabbing another female adult who was on a couch inside of the apartment. One officer fired at Goldberg, who stood up and turned her attention towards a small child who had come out of a bedroom. The officer then fired again and Goldberg, who ran into a bathroom after being struck by several rounds.

The officers gained access to the bathroom, took Goldberg into custody, and summoned medical personnel. Goldberg was transported to the UMC Trauma Center where she was later pronounced deceased. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Officers also located three small children inside of the suite who were uninjured.

The LVMPD Force Investigation Team is currently investigating the officers’ use of force, and Metro's Critical Incident Review Team is examining policy, tactics and training related to this shooting.
