Berkeley law students arrested for killing exotic bird

LAS VEGAS -- Metro police have arrested two males for killing a large exotic bird at the Flamingo Hotel’s wildlife habitat.

Metro dispatch center received a call from Flamingo representatives at approximately 9:35 a.m. today, reporting two men were being detained for killing a large exotic bird. A 14-year-old Helmeted Guinea bird was part of the wildlife habitat.

Officers learned that two men were seen throwing the dead bird, discussing killing it and laughing about it.

Video surveillance showed the men chasing a bird into the trees. A witness then observed the suspects emerge, carrying the body and severed head.

The men claimed to be law students at Berkeley University in northern California and refused to speak with officers. Berkeley student identification cards were found in their possession.

Eric Cuellar, 24, and Justin Teixeira, 24, were arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center where they each face felony charges of conspiracy and willful malicious torture/Killing of wildlife.
