LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – A Clark County grand jury this morning formally indicted the man suspected of killing a California Highway Patrol officer and his brother-in-law asked during a carjacking on the Las Vegas Strip.
James Montgomery, 29, of Tustin, Calif., faces two counts each of murder and kidnapping in connection to the deaths of Officer Jesus Magdaleno and Felix Brandon Cruz III, who were in Las Vegas for Magdaleno’s bachelor party.
Metro police say Montgomery stole Magdaleno’s truck Aug. 18 at the Flamingo Hotel, then wrecked the vehicle -- with the Magdaleno and Cruz in the truck bed -- near the Rio Hotel. Both men were thrown from the truck. Magdaleno died at the scene. Cruz died from his injuries the next night.
Montgomery is being held without bond.
