Police arrest man suspected of abusing infant

LAS VEGAS -- A man who was babysitting an infant has been arrested by Metro police after hospital medical staff alerted the police to possible child abuse.

Las Vegas Metro officers on Thursday were sent to the Sunrise Trauma Center to investigate a report of a five-month-old baby that had been transported in critical condition by ambulance.

Medical personnel believed the injuries sustained by the child appeared to be the result of abuse.

An investigation initiated by the LVMPD Abuse/Neglect detail identified the suspect as 31-year-old Anthony Casey of Las Vegas.

Casey was taken into custody by the Metro SWAT team shortly before midnight at his residence in the 5200 block of Souvenir Lane. Casey was the caretaker of the child at the time the injuries were sustained.

Casey was transported to the Clark County Detention Center and is charged with one count of child abuse/neglect with substantial bodily harm, and one count of child abuse/neglect.
