LAS VEGAS -- LVMPD patrol officer was dispatched to the 4600 block of East Charleston Boulevard following a call received December 17 at approximately 1:40 a.m. regarding an armed robbery of a person.
While on the way to the dispatched call, the officer observed an altercation taking place outside of a business in the 4300 block of East Charleston Boulevard.
The officer observed a male subject run toward the back of the business. As the officer followed and exited the patrol vehicle, the male produced a handgun and fired at the officer, striking the patrol vehicle.
The officer, who was not injured, returned fire. The office was later identified as 24-year-old Kelly Holloway. Holloway joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as a police cadet in 2007.
Officer Holloway was accepted as a police recruit September 19, 2009. Officer Holloway is currently assigned to Northeast Area Command, Patrol Division
The suspect was uninjured and was taken into custody by other officers without further incident. The suspect was subsequently identified as Angel Montoya, 23.
During the investigation, it was determined Montoya was in the process of committing an armed robbery when discovered by the officer. He was also involved in an armed robbery to the business in the 4600 block of East Charleston Boulevard, as well as an earlier armed robbery to a business in the 6300 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard.
A vehicle with a female driver was stopped near the crime scene and was also found to be involved in the series of robberies. The driver was identified as Mayre Rosales, 20.
Montoya was arrested and charged with attempt murder of a police officer, possession of firearm by a prohibited person, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property, three counts burglary with a deadly weapon, four counts robbery with a deadly weapon, and three counts Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.
Rosales was also arrested and charged with attempt murder of a police officer, three counts burglary with a deadly weapon, four counts robbery with a deadly weapon, and three counts conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon.
