HENDERSON (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Stopping scams before they strike was the focus of an identity theft summit today in Henderson.
The FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association and the security company Lifelock discussed with police how to go after scam artists.
The latest scam involves something that's been in the headlines.
“One of the scams is with Obamacare. They're acting like they're from the government agency and they want to pre-enroll you or enroll you in the health care,” said Paige Hanson of Lifelock. “So they're asking for your name, Social Security number, the list goes on and on. And you're thinking. ‘I'm great. I'm enrolled. I'm going to get insurance.’ And, unfortunately, you've given it to an identity thief, and they're opening lines of credit.”
Participants were presented with real case information and insight as to how law enforcement can best work to combat the crime.
Instruction also was provided into the various generations of identity theft as well as information on new scams and the most effective investigative strategies.
