LAS VEGAS -- Chaparral High School Junior Katie Oliveira had the honor of taking part of a student panel yesterday led by NBC's Ann curry called: Voices of a Generation: Students Speak out.
Katie weighed in on cuts to education and giving students a voice in reforms. She also explained the make-over Chaparral is undergoing, and its impact on her peers.
Katie says the experience gave her hope.
“Seeing how many superintendents and principals there were and people who cared...and just talking to them off to the side -- I feel like people are listening and taking things from it,” Oliveira said.
Katie says that she plans to make changes to education hands-on by going to college to become a teacher.
