LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – Eric Campbell of the Las Vegas 51s was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

Campbell hit safely in all five games he played in last week, accumulating a PCL-best 11 hits for a .500 batting average. The utility player took the field at five different positions during week, while producing four doubles, seven RBI and a .577 on-base percentage at the plate. The six runs he scored brought Campbell’s season total to 25, the most for any player in the league. He also ranks second in the PCL with 33 hits on the year for a .351 average.

The Connecticut native helped the first-place 51s to a come-from-behind win on April 21 against the El Paso Chihuahuas when he hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning. The following day he accumulated four hits and three RBI in Las Vegas’ 21-9 victory.

Campbell is in his seventh season in the New York Mets’ farm system. He was drafted by the Mets in the eighth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Boston College. The 27-year-old has now won two Player of the Week awards in his career, the previous award in 2010 when he was a member of the St. Lucie Mets in the Florida State League.

Las Vegas has the PCL Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Allan Dykstra received the honor last week.

Nick Tepesch of Round Rock was the PCL Pitcher of the Week.
