LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Big news for UNLV football fans: the Rebels are going bowling for only the second time this millennium. Even better, they got a spot in a coveted New Year's Day bowl.
The last time the rebels went to bowl game, Bill Clinton was in office. The rebels won that bowl game right here in Las Vegas though, beating Arkansas.
13 years later, they're finally headed back, this time to the Heart of Dallas Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The Rebels will have a slight disadvantage because the team they will face, North Texas, is located less than an hour away from Dallas.
Interestingly, UNLV'S current president is leaving Las Vegas to become the president at North Texas.
If UNLV wins the game, they'll finish the year on a three-game win streak and match their win total of 8 from the 2000 season.
The Heart of Dallas bowl against North Texas is January 1 in the cotton bowl. The game will air on ESPN-U at 9 a.m. Las Vegas time.
