Parade scheduled for Mountain Ridge LLWS squad

LAS VEGAS – Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, Councilman Steven D. Ross and the Las Vegas City Council will honor the Mountain Ridge Little League team at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug 30, at City Hall Plaza, 495 S. Main St.

The entire community is invited to the rally to congratulate the team and coaches for their efforts and the amazing job they have done representing the city of Las Vegas and the state of Nevada. Clark Avenue, between Main and First streets, will be closed to traffic, and the public is invited to come out and cheer for Las Vegas’ “Boys of Summer.”

Following a short award ceremony at City Hall, the team will head down Las Vegas Boulevard to a 98.5 KLUC event hosted by Chet Buchanan at Town Square, at 10 a.m.

The Mountain Ridge Little League is based in Ward 6 of the city of Las Vegas, represented by Ross.

The team is slated to play in the U.S. Championship game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Should Mountain Ridge win, its will advance to the Little League World Series title game on Sunday against the international champion.

Scientists of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted ground and air observations of the lava flow from the Kilauea Volcano and determined that it was 510 meters (560 yards) upslope from Pa-hoa Village Road and the flow width was about 50 meters (55 yards) at the leading edge.
