DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Former UNLV and NBA player Keon Clark has received an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to two charges.

Clark has been in the Vermilion County (Ill.) jail since Aug. 4. He faced weapon, drug and traffic-related charges. On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to weapons and driving under the influence charges in two separate cases. Edgar County Circuit Judge Matthew Sullivan signed off on Clark's plea agreement with prosecutors.

The News-Gazette in Champaign reported he tearfully said in court that he has to own up to his past.

Defense attorneys requested that the judge recommend Clark serve time at a state Department of Corrections drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility outside Chicago.

Clark, 38, a Danville native, was an All-Western Athletic Conference selection in 1996-97, his junior season at UNLV, after averaging 14.8 points and 10 rebounds and registering 112 blocks, which remains the school’s season record.

In his senior season, Clark was limited to 10 games because of two suspensions.

Clark was a first-round pick (No. 13 overall) of the Orlando Magic in the 1998 NBA Draft. He was shipped to Denver after the lockout ended. He also played for Toronto, Sacramento and Utah in a career that ended in 2003.
