LAS VEGAS -- Road closures in downtown Las Vegas are under way, as preparations begin for the upcoming Las Vegas Helldorado Days celebration.
Now through May 31, Sixth and Seventh Streets will be closed between Stewart Avenue and Mesquite.
Other closures include:
Thursday, May 16, beginning at 3 p.m.: Stewart Avenue from Las Vegas Boulevard to Seventh Street will be closed for the Helldorado Rodeo. The street will reopen at midnight.
Friday, May 17, beginning at 3 p.m.: Stewart Avenue from Las Vegas Boulevard to Seventh Street will be closed for the Helldorado Rodeo. The street will remain closed until Sunday, May 19, at midnight.
Las Vegas Helldorado Days, an annual cowboy-themed outdoor charitable festival celebrating Las Vegas’ tribute to the Wild West, will be held May 16 through 19, and offers a four-day rodeo, parade, carnival, Whiskerino contest, exhibits and food.
Held at the Downtown Rodeo Grounds near the Fremont Street Experience, downtown is transformed as the event takes over several vacant downtown blocks and builds an entire rodeo arena and carnival from the ground up.
Created in 1934 and produced by the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 1468, the longest running civic event in the history of Las Vegas has raised more than $4 million, $100,000 in the last two years alone, to assist local children’s and veterans' charities.
