LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- A Metro Police patrol vehicle collided with another vehicle today while it was transporting a larceny suspect to jail.

The collision occurred about 6:35 p.m. at Rancho Drive and Coran Lane. The officer was traveling south on Rancho Drive, when it collided with a car turning left from the northbound lanes onto Coran Lane, Metro officials said.

The officer was transporting a man arrested for allegedly stealing a cellphone out of the hands of a McDonald’s worker and ran, police said. The car failed to yield to the patrol vehicle when it made its left turn, police said.

Neither the officer nor the other driver was injured in the accident. The suspect claimed back pain and was transported to University Medical Center for examination, police said.

Lava won't chase out some people

PAHOA, HAWAII - OCTOBER 26: In this handout provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), A portion of the front of the June 27th lava flow burns through thick vegetation and a fence on October 26, 2014 in Pahoa, Hawaii. Scientists of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted ground and air observations of the lava flow from the Kilauea Volcano and determined that it was 510 meters (560 yards) upslope from Pa-hoa Village Road and the flow width was about 50 meters (55 yards) at the leading edge. Molten rock from the flow is inching its way towards homes in the town of Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island where close to a thousand people live. (Photo by USGS via Getty Images) (Handout, 2014 USGS)
