LAS VEGAS – The Nevada Department of Transportation on Sunday will begin a months-long project to repair and modernize the U.S. 95/I-515 bridge at Flamingo in the southeast part of the Las Vegas Valley.
The repairs are being made to the 30-year-old bridge to bring it up to current earthquake standards.
Nightly lane closures will be in effect in both directions from 8 p.m. Sunday to 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, so work crews can remove barrier rail and install temporary railing.
Repair work is scheduled nightly from 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, to 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, with one northbound lane closed.
Marathon repair work will be continuous from Oct. 11-31, and from Nov. 1-23 with northbound and southbound traffic reduced to two lanes in each direction.
Northbound lanes will be diverted to the southbound bridge (all northbound and southbound traffic will be on the southbound side of the highway) for the Oct. 11-31 closure and reversed for the Nov. 1-23 closure, to allow for seismic retrofitting, spall repair and overlay.
Two of the four on-ramps at Flamingo will close for approximately 42 days. Detour routes will be marked (the southbound detour will route traffic to the Tropicana on-ramp; the northbound detour will take traffic to the Boulder Highway on-ramp). Both Flamingo Road off-ramps and two on-ramps (the movements from westbound Flamingo to northbound US95/515 and eastbound Flamingo to southbound US95/515) will remain open.
Northbound and southbound lane closures will be in effect nightly from 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28 to 5:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2 as crews install permanent barrier rail. All lanes expected to reopen on Dec. 2.
Nearly 36,000 cars travel daily on the on- and off-ramps near the Flamingo Bridge. Las Vegas Paving is the contractor on this $3.5 million project.
