LAS VEGAS -- Traffic lane restrictions will be in effect on Eastern Avenue, between Charleston Boulevard and Sahara Avenue starting Monday, Oct. 10 and continuing through Saturday, Oct. 15.

The inside lanes in both north and south directions of travel will be closed between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

The lane closures are required to allow for work on median island improvements. Construction crews will be removing asphalt filled sections of the islands and replace them with decorative metal sculptures of desert flora and fauna and rockscape improvements. The area will also be painted.

This type of median island improvement project provides aesthetic improvements to the corridor, but with lower construction and maintenance costs, and without the utilization of irrigation water.

The city of Las Vegas Department of Operations and Maintenance is constructing the improvements, and the metal sculptures will be a mix of items procured from a private vendor, along with sculptures by city employees skilled in metal-work fabrication.
