LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Construction workers at 9 p.m. will begin to install the last two signs near the McCarran Airport.
Once this overnight work concludes around 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, it will effectively signal the end of the airport's recent road work/lane closures within the vicinity of this intersection.
During this overnight period, workers will again shut down the two dedicated right-turn lanes from eastbound Tropicana onto southbound Paradise in order to place a sign above those turn lanes. After this sign is in place, drivers will benefit from the opening of a third dedicated right-turn lane at this intersection.
In addition, a separate sign will be installed farther south on Paradise, necessitating the overnight closer of the left southbound lane leading toward the airport and connector tunnel.
NDOT encourage drivers to use Harmon Avenue or Flamingo Road to reach southbound Paradise during this overnight work period, rather than Tropicana. Drivers using eastbound Tropicana will still be able to turn right during this closure, but only on a green signal after making a hard, 90-degree turn around the pork chop island. The tunnel is also an option.
This work was scheduled for overnight hours to mitigate its impact on traffic. Again, this work is slated to occur over just one eight-hour period.
Thursday night workers will also begin a month-long installation of similar overhead directional signs on Russell Road, between Eastern Avenue and Spencer Street.
Lane closures will be 24-hours day and affect both lanes in that area as workers move within this work area over two shifts per day.
At least one lane will remain open around the clock in each direction, but if drivers can find an alternate route (such as leaving/entering Russell by way of Maryland Parkway), it is advisable as well. This work is slated to conclude in mid-December, thanks in part to the double shifts.
