LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – One person is dead and another has been arrested after a crash Monday night between an SUV and a motorcycle in the intersection of Pecos Road and Hacienda Avenue.
According to a release from Metro, a 1994 Ford Explorer driven by Francisco Contreras‐DeJesus, 41, of Las Vegas was traveling northbound on Pecos just after 6 p.m., attempting to make a left turn onto Hacienda Avenue on a permissive, blinking yellow arrow.
A 1999 Honda CBR ridden by a 40-year-old Las Vegas man was traveling southbound on Pecos approaching Hacienda and a green traffic signal. The Ford made the left turn, failing to yield the right of way, which caused the motorcyclist to lose control.
The victim was thrown from the motorcycle and slid underneath the Ford. He was transported to Sunrise Trauma and pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Contreras‐DeJesus submitted to field sobriety tests, failed, and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one charge of felony DUI‐death.
This collision was the 28th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014. The case remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
