LAS VEGAS -- One man is dead this morning after a shooting at a residence near Blue Diamond and Durango.
Metro says a call came in just before 12:20 a.m. about the incident on Lower Trailhead Avenue. The victim was found inside the home. Police say three adults and a minor live at the residence, which is in a gated community.
Patrol officers and medical personnel responded to the residence and discovered a man was dead inside.
The mother of the victim is speaking out. She says her son, Marlon Surrell, was inside his home alone.
She has no idea why someone would kill her son. Police say right after midnight, the intruders forced their way into a home right across these homes.
Neighbors say they heard several gunshots and they called police. When officers arrived at residence they found Surrell shot and unresponsive. The suspect or suspects stole Surrell's car.
Police do not believe this crime is connected to any gang activity. Surrell's mother, girlfriend and step-daughter live in the house where the murder happened. They were not home at the time of the shooting.
The investigation, initiated by the Homicide Section, and evidence at the scene indicates the front door was kicked in and the victim was shot and killed inside the residence. Unknown items were taken from the residence during the home invasion.
The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.
This is the 69th homicide investigated by the LVMPD in 2014. Anyone with information regarding this murder is urged to call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521, or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
