LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A fatal accident that is believed to involve alcohol on southbound Interstate 15 near Cheyenne Avenue has killed a woman and caused major delays for traffic leaving the NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Motorists at LVMS have been advised to go to their vehicles, stay calm and await directions from law enforcement officers or security staffers working to control traffic.

A 31-year-old Las Vegas woman was killed about 2:50 p.m. when she lost control of her four-door VW bug, spun counter-clockwise and was essentially T-boned by a semi that was hauling hay, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson. The woman was transported to UMC Trauma where she was pronounced dead.

Southbound traffic on I-15 has been reduced to one lane, Hixson said. Motorists are being diverted to I-215, Las Vegas Boulevard, Lamb Boulevard or Craig Road to exit the area.

"It is slow go in pretty much in all directions at this point," Hixson said about 5:45 p.m.

"There was evidence in the vehicle and a strong smell that we believe that alcohol was a likely factor in the accident," Hixson said.

The driver of the semi was transported to UMC. He was not seriously injured.

Traffic heading northbound on I-15 is not delayed.

Alcohol kills another one that had no concern or care for anyone else and who did not want to obey the law! At least the offender was the only one killed this time!
