ARMARGOSA VALLEY (KSNV MyNews3) – A suspect is under arrest for a shooting death Sunday in Armargosa Valley.

According to a release from the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, Avery Church, 58, of Armargosa Valley is accused in the shooting death of John Sprague.

Church is being held without bail on the murder charge and nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon in relation to two confrontations over the weekend.

Detectives say that Church twice got into arguments with a group of four teenage males, on Friday and Sunday, and threatened them with a handgun.

After the second confrontation, Sprague went to Church’s residence in the 1100 block of Tamarack Road. Church pulled out his gun and shot Sprague, according to detectives.

Church said that Sprague had punched him twice, which he felt put him in danger.

Was Sprague one of the 4 teens, the father or friend of one of the 4 teens?
