HENDERSON (KSNV MyNews3) -- Co-owner Shawn Hassett says Cowabunga Bay water park will now open for spring break in 2014 instead of this year’s Memorial Day target.

"Obviously it was a hard, internal decision,” Hassett said. “We had some construction delays and would have opened in mid-August. It would be like opening a Christmas Tree lot on Dec. 20.

"We will just gear up and open up by spring break in 2014 with all cylinders firing."

Hassett said the park, at Galleria and Gibson, will issue refunds to all who had bought season passes. He said the park sold about $30,000 worth of season passes.

"Certainly it is disappointing. We knew it was a tall task to begin with,” Hassett said, “and we started late and we knew we were behind the 8-ball. But we kept pushing and pushing."

Wet ‘N’ Wild at Fort Apache and Sunset still intends to open in time for Memorial Day weekend.
