LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Drivers along I-15 are finally in for some relief. Today was the grand opening of one of the biggest projects to hit the interstate.
Years in the making and $250 million later, a ribbon-cutting was held to celebrate the completion of what is being called the biggest makeover for the I-15 in southern Nevada history.
News 3’s Krystal Allan reports from Town Square off the interstate, where dignitaries and drivers celebrated what's known as the "I-15 Design Build."
The improvements span six miles from Tropicana to just past Silverado Ranch.
The project included widening the freeway and ramps to improve traffic flow. New access roads were also added.
N-DOT officials say the idea behind the access roads is to increase safety by keeping merging vehicles away from the main lanes of traffic.
N-DOT's outgoing director says it's a big change for a critical economic corridor.
