LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – A man is in the hospital this morning and a police officer is placed on paid administrative leave after a shooting because of a domestic violence situation, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

At 10:22 p.m. Sunday, the LVMPD Dispatch Center received a call from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend had physically battered her and had damaged her vehicle.

Officers found the woman inside of her vehicle in the parking lot of the closed Hollywood Park, 1600 S. Hollywood Blvd. The ex-boyfriend also was located, sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

After removing the woman from the vehicle and speaking to the man who was still seated inside of the vehicle, the responding officer fired at least one round from a handgun, striking him in the leg.

Responding medical personnel transported the man to the UMC Trauma Center with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. No officers or other individuals were injured during this incident.

The officer involved in this incident has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an inquiry into the event. Per Department policy, the identity of the officer will be released after 48 hours.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Anyone with any information concerning this event is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521, or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
