LAS VEGAS (KSNS & MyNews3) -- High ranking law enforcement sources have confirmed to News 3 that embattled state assemblyman Steven Brooks is being held for medical reasons.

Late this afternoon authorities were investigating a domestic violence incident. No arrest has been made.

News 3's Mackenzie Warren has the update.

Shortly after 1 p.m. today Legislative police officers were providing dignitary protection for Brooks but requested LVMPD officers to assist when Brooks became engaged in a domestic disturbance with family members.

According to authorities, Brooks was exhibiting what was described as bizarre behavior.

Metro police officers responded to the 8400 Block of Westcliff Drive in Northwest Las Vegas to the home of Brooks’ mother where the disturbance was reported.

When officers arrived it was determined that an arrest was not warranted, however due to Brooks exhibiting erratic behavior the officers felt it was in the best interest Brooks to have a medical evaluation performed to prevent harm to himself or others.

At that time Brooks was released to the custody of responding medical personnel who transported Brooks to an area hospital.

New 3 has a crew in motion and will have a live report later on New 3.

This news comes after overnight developments of a bizarre string of late-night text messages sent from Brooks to one of our reporters.

Brooks texting News 3's Jon Ralston at 1:40 in the morning saying things like " call me now" and "luv ya".. Brooks was arrested last Saturday on felony charges that he threatened fellow lawmaker: speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

Brooks is saying Kirkpatrick threatened him first months ago.
