Fire crews save 28 dogs; shop owner charged with arson

LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A pet shop owner has been charged with arson after an apparent attempt to destroy her store on the 6800 block of South Rainbow Boulevard.

Nearly 30 dogs were rescued by Clark County firefighters.

Clark County Fire Department Chief John Steinbeck reported Friday night in an email to the media that the fire occurred early Monday morning.

According to the news release, firefighters responded to Prince and Princess Puppy Boutique at 12:55 a.m. Monday. The crew on Engine 21 discovered a fire inside the store. The sprinkler system had activated and the fire was extinguished by firefighters.

A primary life search was completed and 28 dogs were discovered in the pet store and rescued.

Shortly after the scene was investigated by Clark County fire investigators, they arrested the store’s owner. Gloria Lee, 35. She has been charged with first-degree arson and is at the Clark County Detention Center.

Clark County Animal Control responded to take possession of the dogs.

The fire caused $100,000.00 in damages and was fought by 25 staffers. No humans were injured.
