LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The hunt for an attempted murder suspect out of California ended at a Las Vegas elementary school. The U.S. Marshal's Task Force caught the fugitive while he was trying to fulfill some parental duties.

Officials say the suspect, Jesse Pineda, 21, went to Woolley Elementary School near Pecos and Walnut for a parent-teacher conference. The visit caused that school and nearby Cox Elementary to go on a hard lockdown until law enforcement could get their hands on him.

The lockdown was lifted at 3:30 p.m.

Students streamed out of the school into the arms of unaware parents.

The School District says a soft lock down is when doors are locked, but class can continue inside and some students may be allowed to leave. A hard lockdown is when no one can come in or out.

Police called the lockdown a precautionary measure. They say no student or staff was ever in danger.

Pineda is in the Clark County Detention Center waiting for an extradition hearing.
