LAS VEGAS -- A 31-year-old male hiking in the Calico Basin area of Red Rock National Conservation Area fell to his death Saturday afternoon.
An unidentified woman made a call to 9-1-1 at 1:06 p.m. to report the fall. She said the man was not breathing.
On Monday the Clark County Coroner identified the hiker as Nathan Paul Mckinney of Las Vegas. The cause of death was determined as blunt multiple forced trauma due to fall from height.
"We are not sure if she was hiking with him or observed the fall or came across him," Metro Officer Marcus Martin said. "We don't know how far he fell."
Martin said that by the time fire & rescue and fire department personnel arrived it was too late to revive the man.
Red Rock is a popular hiking area about 10 miles west of Las Vegas.
