LAS VEGAS -- A 62-year-old man suffered serious injuries Tuesday morning after his Chevy Camaro ended up in a deep ditch near Sunset Road and Decatur Boulevard, Metro Police said.

Don Wayne Teller of Boulder City was transported to University Medical Center Trauma by helicopter.

Police said emergency crews rescued the man, who had become trapped in his vehicle after the accident.

The single-vehicle accident occurred at 6:48 a.m. in the 5100 block of West Sunset Road, according to police.

They say the car was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, but it’s unclear what caused the man to drive his 1996 Chevy Camaro through road barriers and a chain link fence, coming to rest in the ditch, which police estimated to be 20 to 30 feet deep.

The collision remains under investigation.
