Man kills himself near Red Rock Conservation Area

LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – A man committed suicide this morning near the loop at the Red Rock Conservation Area, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Officer Jose Hernandez says the man was threatening to kill himself and, officers were trying to talk him back to safety. Some shots were then fired before the man shot himself.

Investigators remain at the scene.

With a gun involved, no paramedic will want to respond. A firearm makes the police necessary. Many people know that pointing a firearm at police will invoke a deadly response.

I'm beginning to think that maybe the Las Vegas police shouldn't be the first responders in suicide situations. Compassion and calming someone down doesn't seem to be their strong suit. Somebody usually ends up hurt or dead.
