LAS VEGAS --A public memorial service has been scheduled for our friend and longtime Las Vegas weatherman John Fredericks, who died on Friday, Nov. 23 the age of 57.

The service, which will celebrate John’s life, will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 8 at Canyon Ridge Christian Church. Early arrival is recommended and seating will begin at 9:30 that morning.

Canyon Ridge Christian Church is located at 6200 West Lone Mountain Road in Las Vegas.

The organizers are asking anyone who would like to share their favorite memories of John to do so by emailing them to johnfredericksmemorial@gmail.com

Fredericks was part of the News 3 morning news team from 1995 through 2008, and had a close connection with his viewers.

While with News 3 his main job was weather forecasting, eventually becoming the station's Chief Meteorologist. But he was known for other things, perhaps first and foremost among them, his love of animals.

Fredericks' dog Jordan was a presence on the show for many years, and John was well known throughout the pet community for his compassion and championship of animal causes.

He also brought a lot of fun to our morning show with his "Joke of the Day", "Fredericks' Fact" and friendly on-air presence.

When Fredericks left, he published a book about his life with Jordan, and he continued to be active with animal causes.

Fredericks had been in declining health for several months, and was admitted to Nathan Adelson Hospice.

In a visit by his friend, they say he was in good spirits and seemed at peace.

The Las Vegas Sun has reported that the ashes of a longtime Las Vegas TV weather personality known for his love of animals will be placed in a pet cemetery this weekend.

The family of John Fredericks, who appeared from 1995 to 2008 on KVBC Channel 3 — now KSNV — will place his ashes next to his beloved canine companion, Jordan, at the Craig Road Pet Cemetery.

A spokesman said the family reached its decision this week while preparing for Fredericks’ public memorial, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Canyon Ridge Christian Church, 6200 W. Lone Mountain Road.

Memorial Fund Donations

Donations will help pay for his memorial services. Any extra money will be donated to Nathan Adelson Hospice & NSPCA in Fredericks’ name.

To make a donation, the fund is set up at Nevada State Bank under account No. 0588016311.

A very sad story made sadder by the constant need of our country men to kick one another when we are down trodden and in need. John's love of animals and his spirit of unselfish service will live on and someday hopefully overshadow a troubled time in his life. Let us all judge less and love more and in that vein I will try to give of my gifts to assist the animal shelters in this overburdened community and remember John and Jordan in a positive light. John may have used alcohol to end his days however he really died of a broken heart.

John adopted another dog like Jordan. Does anyone know where the dog is at and how he is doing? I loved John, be totally brought sunshine in the mornings no matter how bad the weather was.

I thought about John so often and wondered how he was getting along. He was the reason that I watched News 3: a tremendous animal advocate, funny, fun-loving, and very knowledgeable. Loved the daily jokes and ‘Fredericks Facts’. He was pretty hip and had the news anchors peppering their conversations with hip-hop expressions – especially the Wagners. Loved it! John signed my book and I understood a lot more about him after reading it. This was a fragile man with a big heart, personality, and talent – but he needed someone to help him through the emotional scars and deep holes from childhood. I’d like to ask the News 3 executives if it was worth it to not reinstate him yet refuse to terminate his contract so that he could work elsewhere. How was he to survive? Well, it’s over now and everyone involved has learned something about themselves. John is in a better place, at peace with his beloved Jordo. Rest well, dear friend.

I will miss you even more than when you left Channel 3. I loved to watch News 3, just to watch John and Jordan. Peace to both of you. Great loss. God Bless you

I, too, was very sad to hear of the passing of John. I had the opportunity on 5/5/2005, to meet the entire morning newscast crew, and be a part of the morning broadcast. I found John to be an extremely kind man... (he would have to be, to love Jordan #1 so much.) When I heard that he was admitted to Nathan Adelson Hospice...my thoughts were...that his time was near, and he would again be reunited with "Jordo" Rest in peace, John. AvaH

Just a few months after I moved to Vegas I caught John Fredricks on TV showcasing a blind puppy from Dewey. I adopted that dog the next day and he changed my life & brought me so much happiness! Max (the dog) is in heaven now, too. Im sure he lined up with the rest of the animals saved by his work. God bless, John.

John truly was an advocate for dogs and for all critters. I imagine John approaching Rainbow Bridge with his faithful dog companion Jordan wagging his tail as they cross the bridge, together again. Krizma99

So sad.. I never met him, but when Jordan was going through his illness, my dog had the same disease and they died on the same day. I considered John as part of my family & mourned along with him every day. Channel 3 was never the same after he left the news. My sincere condolences. Joyce L.
