Moped operator killed by hit-and-run driver

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- An 84-year-old moped operator was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Boulder City Wednesday around 2 p.m.

Boulder City Dispatch received two 9-1-1 calls reporting that a vehicle hit a moped and the moped rider was down on Adams in front of the library. The vehicle then left the scene.

Police and fire were dispatched to the scene where they found an injured male laying in the road next to his damaged moped.

The crash temporarily closed the westbound lanes of Adams Boulevard between Avenue K and Avenue G.

Witnesses said a red vehicle traveling westbound on Adams passing a moped also westbound on Adams when the moped rider swerved toward the vehicle and went down.

Witness said the red vehicle proceeded west bound on Adams, stopped at the posted stop sign then continued west bound on Adams.

The vehicle involved in the crash was a blue unlicensed moped, ridden by an 84-year-old Boulder City resident.

The injured man was transported to the Boulder City emergency room where he was pronounced dead. Several officers searched the area for the unidentified red vehicle however the vehicle was not located.

Evidence at the scene as well as interviews with two eye witnesses indicate that the red vehicle may not have been involved, however police are interested in speaking with the driver of the red vehicle and any other witnesses that may have information on the crash.

The Henderson Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Team was called to assist in the investigation and diagram the scene.

Speed is not believed to be a contributing factor in this crash.

This crash is still under investigation.
