LAKE MEAD -- Speed was apparently a contributing factor when a 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed this morning at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. near mile marker 3 on the Callville Bay access road. The unidentified motorcyclist apparently lost control and slid down an embankment about 75 feet from the road.
National Park rangers administered CPR for 40 minutes before an ambulance paramedic pronounced the driver dead.
Rangers said speed appeared to be a factor. The National Park Service is handling the accident investigation with the help of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The Callville Bay access road was closed during the investigation, but was re-opened shortly after 3 p.m.
The identity of the driver will be released by the Clark County coroner's office.
